Definition: A flange connected to equipment or pipelines by means of threading.

Details: This is a rather formal technical term; in practice, it refers to commonly known threaded fittings, mostly used for connecting welded pipes, typically in sizes ranging from DN15 to DN100. The threaded flange is a widely used flange structure type in engineering construction, featuring convenient on-site installation and no need for welding. As this revision has expanded the applicable steel pipe outer diameter series of flanges from metric pipes to both metric and imperial pipe series, the variety of threaded flanges has been added with reference to ISO 7005-1.

Threaded flanges are only applicable to imperial pipe series. When the thread type adopted by threaded flanges is the 55° pipe thread specified in GB 7306, the outer diameter of the steel pipe matched with the DN150 flange shall be 165.1 mm. When 60° tapered pipe threads are used, the outer diameter of the steel pipe matched with the DN65 flange shall be 73 mm; the outer diameter of the steel pipe matched with the DN125 flange shall be 141.3 mm. Special attention shall be paid in use that the nominal pressure range and nominal diameter range of threaded flanges are set with reference to ISO 7005-1, which are PN 0.6~4.0 MPa and DN 10~150 mm.

Threaded flanges have two types of sealing surfaces: flat face and raised face. Considering the structural characteristics of threaded flanges, they are not suitable for flammable, explosive, high-hazard and extremely hazardous applications. They can be safely used in low-pressure systems such as air conditioning water systems. For example, the pipe fittings on household tap water inlets are threaded types.
