Large-caliber elbows are characterized by a large diameter (above 800mm), thin wall thickness and poor rigidity. Large stainless steel elbows require a smooth and attractive appearance. It is difficult to process such large elbows using the manufacturing methods for small and medium-sized elbows.
Common processing methods for small and medium-sized elbows include: casting; split pressing followed by welding; split cutting followed by welding, etc. These methods are difficult or even impossible to apply to the manufacture of large stainless steel elbows.
Casting involves extreme difficulty in core making; cutting requires large-scale turning and milling equipment, which is restricted by equipment and processing technology; pressing requires the manufacture of oversized molds with extremely high costs and long production cycles.
The die-less hydraulic bulging technology not only solves this manufacturing difficulty but also features low cost, short production cycle and excellent forming effect.
The basic process of manufacturing large stainless steel elbows via die-less bulging technology is as follows:
